Exfoliating After a Long Summer Weekend
Exfoliating after a Summer Weekend Away
With a big holiday weekend ahead of us, many of us are planning fun getaways in the sun. We know that it can be tough to maintain your skincare routine when traveling - products are not always easy to pack. Staying up late with family and friends can alter your nighttime schedule, and different climates affect your skin in different ways.
The key to skin repair after a long weekend away is exfoliation. Below are some reasons why you should be exfoliating after a summer weekend away:
#1: Sunscreen
Everyone needs some vitamin D, and vacation is a great time to relax in the sun. We sure hope that you’re taking measures to protect your skin – using SPF products and finding shade! Many sunscreens, though, are thick and hats tend to cause sweating, leaving buildup on your skin. Exfoliation is a great way to unclog your pores after time in the sun! Products we recommend that you can use daily (if needed) are Reflekt Daily Exfoliating Face Wash and January Labs Daily Brightening Tonic
#2: Sun Spots/Hyperpigmentation
Even if you are taking measures to protect your skin, we know that no plan is perfect. And unfortunately, exposure to UV rays ramps up the amount of melanin in your skin, creating unwanted sun spots. Luckily, exfoliation can aid in lightening these new spots. By removing the dead/damaged skin cells and revealing a fresh, new layer of skin, exfoliation is fundamental with summer pigment. Products we love for sun spot exfoliation are January Labs Night Cream and Environ Mela Fade Serum.
#3: Returning to Reality
Lastly, we know that vacation is a great time to relax – to destress. Yet, there is no better time to do a great exfoliation than post-summer! Your sun-kissed skin needs products that leave your skin refreshed, bright, and glowing. Some of our favorites for revitalizing fatigued, sun-damaged skin are the Environ Revival Mask and Circcell Fruition Mask. When you return from paradise, returning to work and school can be a serious source of stress. Don’t let that discomfort lead to breakouts or other skin conditions.
#4. Allow Skincare to Absorb Past Dull Skin
When you continue to apply skincare and makeup on skin that hasn’t been properly exfoliated, you are simply layering products on top of one another without a chance of real penetration. When you exfoliate and slough off dead skin cells, you allow your skincare products the opportunity to seep in beyond the epidermis (outer layer of skin). Products we love for gently sloughing off dead skin cells are French Farmacie Élixir Exfoliant and Reflekt Daily Exfoliating Face Wash.
Exfoliation is key after summer sun – find a couple products that work well for you skin and apply them two times a week to prep for fall.
