Six Simple Skincare Resolutions for Anyone and Everyone
Another year, another season of resolution chatter. While saying you’ll make it to pilates five times a week, add ten new skincare products at once to the mix, or cut out sugar entirely sounds feasible in January, we all know that life gets in the way and far fetched goals can often times end up stressing you out in the long-run when not met. Skincare at home should be a relatively enjoyable process for the most part. Protecting and repairing our skin through cleansers, serums, and creams can be relaxing and self-soothing if the undue stress is taken out of it. Committing to realistic goals that are simple for everyone can be transformational.
We have created six easy skincare resolutions that will make the world of difference:
1. Cleanse your face every night! We are not talking makeup wipes, ladies. Time to get a proper cleanser and cleanse and rinse your face every single night. This is 100% the most important step of your entire evening routine. Cleansers we recommend for normal to dry skin are Environ Cleansing Lotion, Circcell Geothermal Clay Cleanser, and Decree Light Cleanse. Cleansers we recommend for oily prone skin are January Labs Pure & Gentle Cleansing Gel and Royal Fern Cleansing Balm.
2. Use a clean washcloth with every single cleanse. Using the same washcloth after even one use can bring bacteria to your clean skin in seconds. Changing washcloths is one simple way to prevent unwanted breakouts and other skin irritations. This is one of our favorite hand towels great for makeup removal and evening cleanses!
3. Wash pillowcases more often and use a silk pillowcase if possible. Your clean face hits the same pillowcase that has been sitting there all week. The same pillowcase that has sweat, excess product, possible makeup from skipping a cleanse, etc etc.... Stick your pillowcases in the wash as often as possible during the week to prevent breakouts. Additionally, silk pillowcases reduce friction on the skin, preventing creasing or rubbing. Silk also has antimicrobial benefits that will help reduce overnight breakouts from forming. Silk helps the products stay on your skin, promoting moisture retention. This is one of our favorite silk pillowcases - worth every penny!
4. Clean out and organize your beauty products. Out with the old and in with the new! Using a product that has been sitting in your medicine cabinet for a few years is a big no-no. Using old or dirty brushes is also an easy way for bacteria to creep in. Stay organized with your beauty bags and drawers. Keep your skincare in climate controlled environments and toss old products that no longer serve you any purpose.
5. Brush your teeth prior to cleansing your face. If you spend time cleansing your skin and putting your gorgeous skincare products on your face...to then later brush your teeth before bed, you run the risk of leaving residue around your lips and mouth (an area we all so often tend to breakout). Brush your teeth, THEN cleanse your face - make it a new habit and those pesky little breakouts will be few and far between! Trust us, it's a tip not many tend to consider but one we often hear makes a huge difference!
6. Commit to at least one new skincare step this year. If that means adding in a new serum, let’s find the one that is best for you! If that means, getting rid of your bar of soap and switching to a moisturizing cleanser, no time is better than now. Or if that means finally giving in to that LED light therapy mask, gold derma roller, or Nuface microcurrent device you’ve been eyeing forever, January is a great time to build a new habit, edit a routine, and begin new rituals.
We have your back every step of the way. January is THE time for a skin reset! We all indulged plenty in November and December, and our skin is calling for a detox. See if these six simple skincare resolutions work for you - make it easy and take any stress out of your evening skincare routines. Make it enjoyable, play music, light a candle, and connect to the process of loving your skin.
Happy New Year, beauties! Looking forward to a wonderful year talking skin with you!
xx
